YAYASAN SALAM COORDINATING FLOOD RELIEF MISSION

 

Yayasan Salam Malaysia has been involved in flood relief activities in Johor since 14 December 2007.  Our latest team just came back this morning, 15 January 2007.  The missions were consisted and assisted by many organizations including Malaysia Amateur Radio Emergency Services (MARES), Malaysia Airlines (MAS), MAS Backpackers, Department of Civil Defense (JPA3), Tenaga Nasional Engineering and Consultancy (TNEC), KPMG Malaysia, Nationwide Express Service (Nationwide), 4X4 Team, KIOKU and a few other organizations wished to remain unanimous.

 

Volunteers – Thank you.

We have been to Segamat, Batu Pahat and Kluang.  So far we have deployed more than 200 volunteers, mainly from Klang Valley and Johor.  Back in the headquarters, volunteers from German International School, KPMG Malaysia, KIOKU and other organizations were helping in sorting, packing and loading of relief items.

We received cash donations from individuals, and corporate partners such as KPMG, Rusmah, Arunan & Associates, Lee, Hishamudin Allen & Gledhille Advocates and Solicitors, TNEC, and Lembaga Akreditasi Nasional (LAN).

 

Relief Items

Relief items distributed inclusive dry food items such as rice, cooking old, canned food, milk, sugar, coffee, tea, biscuits, instant noodles, and etc.  We also distributed clothes, sanitary pads, under garments, blankets, disposable diapers, school bags, shoes, stationery, and toiletries.

 

Next Mission

We are pooling resources again for 19th  to 22nd  mission.  A planning meeting is scheduled to take place on 17 Jan at 4.00 pm at SALAM’s office.  Mission briefing is on 19 Jan at 10.00 am at SALAM’s office.

 

Need

We are still looking for able volunteers to assist in the operation.  Please register at SALAM’s office by Wednesday 17 Jan if you are interested.  Tasks for volunteers are loading and unloading of relief items, assist in evacuation, assist in logistic and communication, cooking and cleaning and giving medical assistance.

 

We are looking for goods to be brought to the operation base camp in Johor such as:

  1. Dry food items – rice, cooking oil, sugar, milk, canned food, biscuit, instant noodle, etc
  2. Blankets, mosquito nets, baby clothes, under garment, toiletries, stationery, school bags, uniforms, etc
  3. Medical supplies
  4. Boats, jet ski, 4 wheel drive,  bus, trucks, etc

 

Contribution can be channeled to Yayasan Salam Malaysia, No 8 Jalan Utara, 46200 Petaling Jaya and in kind contribution can be channeled to Nationwide Express Service (Tel: 03 5163 3333)
